Notes, guides & reference wikis

Blog

Writing from the working end of lighting engineering: lighting design, controls, documentation, tooling, and the craft around them. Short pieces stay ordinary posts. The topics that outgrow that format become full reference wikis, built the same way as the rest of this site.

What lands here

Things I've had to figure out properly for a project and would rather not figure out twice, written down so the next person (often future me) starts further ahead. Entries marked wiki are multi-article references with their own sidebar. Entries marked post are single reads.

Wiki·July 2026·LEEDLightingControlsCertification

LEED v4 Lighting & Controls Wiki

Everything in LEED v4 that touches lighting: fixtures, controls, daylighting, exterior and site lighting, metering, demand response, and commissioning, all organized as a working reference for lighting and building-automation project teams. Credit-by-credit articles with the thresholds highlighted, the v4.0/v4.1 differences flagged, an ASHRAE 90.1-2010 deep dive, and a practical playbook for the documentation.

I put this together after enough LEED projects (Aldar Academies HQ, Masdar Office Buildings M19A & M19B) taught me that the credit language is scattered, versioned, and quietly amended — and that having one map saves real project hours.

Super Fusion: A PDF Merging Tool on steroids

A small Windows app for merging PDFs into one document, in the order you want, with a nested bookmark outline that follows how you arrange the files. Drag to reorder, indent to nest, tick a row for a bookmark, and drop files in straight from Explorer. I built it out of my frustration with mundane and repetitive submittal work, where every package is a pile of loose PDFs that has to come out as one clean, navigable file, fast! It's the PDF merge part of my submittal tool (internal), spun out on its own.
