Masdar Office Buildings M19A & M19B
Designing and delivering LEED-certified projects for Masdar, the UAE's flagship clean-energy company, including a dynamic lighting and control system for a building façade. Sustainability isn't a brochure word on these projects; it's a certification checklist the lighting has to pass.
Dynamic façades under LEED constraints
A dynamic façade is all about drama: color, movement, programmable scenes. LEED pulls the other way, toward energy performance, controllability, and light-pollution limits. The design work is reconciling the two. You want a control architecture that can run a show and also dim, schedule, and shut down with the discipline a certification reviewer expects to see documented. On a project like this, the controls engineering matters more than the fixture schedule.
If the certification side of this interests you, my LEED v4 Lighting & Controls Wiki on the blog covers how LEED v4 treats lighting, every credit, threshold, and documentation trap.
